Wertach ist mit 915 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel die höchstgelegene Marktgemeinde Deutschlands und liegt in der Region Oberallgäu am Fuße des Grünten an dem Fluss Wertach. Der nach der Ortschaft benannte Hausberg ist das Wertacher Hörnle.
Das Gemeindegebiet von Wertach besteht aus einer einzigen Gemarkung. Sie hat elf amtlich benannte Gemeindeteile: der Hauptort Wertach, die Dörfer Bichel, Enthalb der Ach, Hinterreute und Vorderreute, die Weiler Gereute, Hinterschneid, Oberellegg, Unterellegg und Vorderschneid sowie die Einöde Schray.
