Hardegsen ist eine Kleinstadt im Landkreis Northeim im südlichen Niedersachsen, Deutschland. Die Stadt Hardegsen bezeichnet sich als das Tor zum Solling und ist von einem umfangreichen Wanderwegenetz umgeben. Die Stadt ist bekannt für ihre Fachwerkhäuser und die Burg Hardeg mit dem Muthaus; außerdem hat sie einen Wild- und Haustierpark sowie einen Campingplatz. Bis Ende 2010 war Hardegsen ein staatlich anerkannter Luftkurort.
Hardegsen liegt westlich der Leine und östlich des Sollings, direkt am südwestlichen Rand des Höhenzuges Weper. Hardegsen wird vom Fluß Espolde durchflossen, in die im Stadtgebiet der Schöttelbach mündet.
