Leutershausen liegt an der Altmühl etwa in der Mitte zwischen der Bezirkshauptstadt Ansbach und Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Nachbargemeinden sind : Geslau, Colmberg, Lehrberg, Ansbach, Herrieden, Aurach, Dombühl, Schillingsfürst und Buch am Wald.
Bei dem Gemeindeteil Erndorf wurde zeitweise nur ein einzelner Hof so genannt, während die beiden anderen Anwesen des Ortes Simonsmühle bzw. Büttnersdorf hießen.
