Woltmershausen befindet sich an der linken Seite der Weser im Südwesten der Stadt. Der Stadtteil ist benachbart mit den Stadtteilen Neustadt im Osten sowie Seehausen und Strom im Westen und Süden.
Woltmershausens Ursprünge reichen bis in frühgeschichtliche Zeit zurück. Der Name bezieht sich auf die Siedlung eines Grundherrn namens Woltmer . Im 18. Jahrhundert gab es sechs Vollhöfe, drei Kötner sowie einige Brinksitzer und Häuslinge. Die Einwohnerzahl betrug etwa 300.
