Rinteln ist eine Stadt und selbständige Gemeinde im Weserbergland an der Weser im Landkreis Schaumburg in Niedersachsen. Ihre gut erhaltene Altstadt ist auch heute noch von zahlreichen wertvollen Fachwerkhäusern geprägt. Im Mittelalter umschloss eine Stadtmauer die Stadt, deren Ausbau in der Neuzeit die Stadt zur Festung Rinteln machte. Von 1619 bis 1810 war Rinteln zudem Universitätsstadt. Rinteln war bis zum Jahr 1977 Kreisstadt, zunächst bis 1904 des Landkreises Rinteln, seit 1904 des Landkreises Grafschaft Schaumburg.
