Die kreisfreie Stadt Münster in Westfalen ist Sitz des gleichnamigen Regierungsbezirks im Land Nordrhein-Westfalen. Von 1815 bis 1946 war Münster Hauptstadt der preußischen Provinz Westfalen. Die Stadt an der Münsterschen Aa liegt zwischen dem Ruhrgebiet und Osnabrück im Zentrum des Münsterlandes und ist als zwanzigstgrößte Stadt Deutschlands eines der Oberzentren des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
