Das Herzogtum Berg war ein rechtsrheinisches Territorium des Heiligen Römischen Reiches deutscher Nation. Es zählte zum Niederrheinisch-Westfälischen Reichskreis und war landständisch verfasst. Es bestand vom 11. Jahrhundert bis 1380 als Grafschaft und weiter bis 1806 als Herzogtum Berg, danach bis etwa Ende 1813 in stark veränderter Form als Großherzogtum. Berg war lange mit dem Herzogtum Jülich und wechselweise mit verschiedenen anderen Territorien in Personalunion vereint. Herrschaftssitz war zunächst Burg Berge in Altenberg, ab 1133 dann Schloss Burg und ab dem späten 14. Jahrhundert das Düsseldorfer Schloss.
