Der Schellenberger Turm diente ab 1193/94 im heutigen Marktschellenberg am Übergang nach Salzburg als Wehrturm zur Grenzbefestigung des zunehmend eigenständiger werdenden Berchtesgadener Landes sowie nach der Säkularisation bis 1823 der Stationierung einer königlich bayerischen Grenzbesatzung.
