Die Ahlhorner Kellersteine sind zwei etwa 50 m auseinander liegende neolithische Großsteingräber vom Typ Ganggrab bzw. Großdolmen mit den Sprockhoff-Nrn. 939 und 940. Sie entstanden zwischen 3500 und 2800 v. Chr. und sind Megalithanlagen der Trichterbecherkultur .
Das Ganggrab ist eine Bauform jungsteinzeitlicher Megalithanlagen, die aus einer Kammer und einem baulich abgesetzten, lateralen Gang besteht. Diese Form ist primär in Dänemark, Deutschland und Skandinavien, sowie vereinzelt in Frankreich und den Niederlanden zu finden. Fußend auf den Keramikfunden werden beide Anlagen der älteren bis mittleren Phase der Westgruppe der TBK zugeordnet. „Neolithische Monumente sind Ausdruck der Kultur und Ideologie jungsteinzeitlicher Gesellschaften. Ihre Entstehung und Funktion gelten als Kennzeichen der sozialen Entwicklung“.
