Mogontiacum ist der lateinische Name der heutigen Stadt Mainz, den diese während ihrer fast 500-jährigen Zugehörigkeit zum Römischen Reich trug. Seinen Ursprung hatte Mogontiacum in dem 13/12 v. Chr. von Drusus erbauten Legionslager, das strategisch günstig auf einer Anhöhe über dem Rhein und gegenüber der Mainmündung an der römischen Rheintalstraße lag.
