Das altmärkische Straßendorf Poritz liegt drei Kilometer westlich von Bismark am Flohgraben, der im Westen in das Flüsschen Milde strömt, die wenige Kilometer nordöstlich zusammen mit der Unteren Milde zur Biese wird.
Die erste urkundliche Erwähnung stammt aus dem Jahre 1341 als to pordiz, als Heinrich und Fritz von Buzt den Bauern zu Büste Holzungen und Weiden überließen. Im Jahre 1358 wird das Dorf als in villa porditze erwähnt, als der Knappe Ditrich von Wultitz Hebungen aus dem Dorf an Bürger in Stendal verkauft. Im Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg von 1375 wird der Ort als Portz aufgeführt.
