Kennen Sie den „Sperberhaier Damm“? Das von Hand aufgeschüttete imposante Bauwerk diente einst zur Wasserversorgung der Clausthaler Bergwerke, ebenso wie die zahlreichen Teiche, Gräben und Wasserläufe (= unterirdische Kanäle) des UNESCO-Welterbes "Oberharzer Wasserwirtschaft".
Die Mundlöcher, Ein- und Austrittsstellen des Wassers in die Unterwelt, sind teilweise noch erkennbar. Achten Sie einmal auf die „Dennert-Tanne“, die harztypischen gelben Hinweistafeln in Form eines Nadelbaums, dem Baustoff der Bergleute. Vorbei an Altenau betreten wir den Nationalpark Harz. Mit Glück begegnet uns ein scheuer Luchs - der König der Harzer Wälder, der hier wieder ausgewildert wird. Informieren Sie sich im Nationalparkhaus Torfhaus und schließen Sie sich einer Wanderung mit dem Nationalpark-Ranger an.
