Am 1. Januar 2019 hatte die Gemeinde 204 Einwohner, im gleichnamigen Hauptort lebten 168 Einwohner.
Zur Gemeinde gehört auch der Ort Reykjanes.
Am 1. Januar 1995 wurden die Landgemeinden Ögur und Reykjafjörður eingemeindet.
Das Gemeindegebiet wird von West nach Ost von den Fjorden Álftafjörður, Seyðisfjörður, Hestfjörður, Skötufjörður, Mjóifjörður, Reykjarfjörður und Ísafjörður eingeschnitten.
