Das Piacenzian ist eine Periode im Pliozän. Das Piacenzian wurde 1858 von dem Schweizer Stratigraphen Karl Mayer-Eymar in die wissenschaftliche Literatur eingeführt. Es ist nach dieser italienischen Stadt Piacenza benannt. Es ist eine Warmperiode (die Piacenzian-Phase des Pliozäns - vor etwa 3 Millionen Jahren), als die Temperaturen um mehr als 3 °C anstiegen, der Meeresspiegel 20 Meter höher war als heute und es mehr Kohlendioxid in der Atmosphäre gab als jemals zuvor.
