Die Gemeinde Liesveld war am 1. Januar 1986 durch Zusammenschluss der bisherigen Gemeinden Groot-Ammers, Langerak, Nieuwpoort und Streefkerk entstanden. Die Gemeinden Graafstroom, Liesveld und Nieuw-Lekkerland wurden am 1. Januar 2013 zur neuen Gemeinde Molenwaard fusioniert, welche seit 2019 Teil von Molenlanden ist.
