Es liegt im Südwesten von Balk und im Westen von Lemmer, zwischen Rijs und Nijemirdum und in der Nähe des IJsselmeers. Das Dorf ist umgeben von den Naturschutzgebieten/Wäldern die Elfbergen, dem Jolderenbos und dem Oudemirdumer Klif. Im Jahr 2021 hatte das Dorf 1.380 Einwohner. Zum Dorf gehören auch die Weiler Marderhoek und Schouw.
