Das Schiedamse Tor und ihr Nachbar, das Rotterdamse Tor, sind jetzt verschwunden, aber man kann sie immer noch auf dem Gemälde von Vermeer 'Blick auf Delft' sehen.
Wusstest du, dass Vermeer erst in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts von den Franzosen als Topmaler wiederentdeckt wurde! Unter anderem war Marcel Proust völlig begeistert von diesem Werk. Obwohl Proust todkrank war, schleppte er sich zur Ausstellung im Jeu de Paume, wo dieses Gemälde ausgestellt wurde. Er nannte es das schönste Gemälde der Welt.
