Zwischen dem alten Kern des Dorfes Stein und dem Julianakanaal liegt verborgen ein authentischer Teil des Maastals, die Wiesen von Stein. Der nördliche Teil wird vom historischen Grüngebiet ’t Brook / Ziepe gebildet. Das Gebiet gehört zum Urdal und ist seit jeher ein wasserreiches Gebiet mit einer rauen Vegetation. Das Gebiet schließt sich an die Treidelwege entlang des Julianakanaals und das südliche Wandergebiet durch die Wiesen, "de Meulewiert", zum Schloss Stein an.
