Brontë Sisters

This group collects routes and places linked to the famous Brontë sisters, Charlotte (1816-1855), Emily (1818-1848) and Anne (1820-1849). They were a famous literary family of the 19th century. They were born in Thornton and later lived in Haworth, Yorkshire, England.

The correct spelling of the famous literary family's name is Brontë. The name was modified by their father, Patrick Brontë (originally Brunty), to retain the two-syllable pronunciation. The diaeresis (two dots) above the 'e' indicates that the name should be pronounced "Bron-të", which corresponds to the pronunciation of the Greek word for "thunder"
