The castle ruins are located in the Nussdorf district of Döbling and border the Kahlenbergerdorf district. To the north, the Schablergraben separates the castle ruins from Kahlenbergerdorf and the Leopoldsberg, while the Nussberg lies to the southeast. The northeastern slope of the castle ruins descends steeply towards the Danube. Geologically, the mountain is situated in a northeastern foothill of the Eastern Alps and belongs to the flysch zone, which is composed of sandstone, marl, and claystone.
