The scientist Erwin Schrödinger had a connection with Alpbach. He was so fascinated by this picturesque village that he returned there throughout his life. In Alpbach, he spent most of his time working on physical theories, as evidenced by his correspondence with Einstein and other colleagues. As he grew older, his persistent respiratory problems caused him to travel more often to the village, located 1000 meters above sea level, to undergo recovery treatments. Additionally, around 1951 or 1952, he participated as a lecturer in the Austrian University Weeks, now known as the European Forum Alpbach. His bond with Alpbach was so deep that, at his request, he was buried in the parish church cemetery of St. Oswald in Alpbach.
A great time to take a walk here in the Alpbach Valley and literally step in his footsteps is on his birthday (Erwin Schrödinger was born in Vienna on August 12, 1887).
