Description by the author

Zulte Buzzes, Sunday May 31, 2026

Bees play an extremely important role as pollinators for more than 75% of all food crops. Without bees, there is no fruit, and no vegetables either. Their economic and ecological value is therefore invaluable, but they are increasingly struggling to survive.

Blooming Buzzness (the bee working group of Zulte) in collaboration with Natuurpunt Deinze-Zulte organizes, in the context of 'Bee Week', on Sunday May 31, 'Zulte Buzzes - Zulte celebrates the bees'. Several bee-related locations will open their doors for visits.

The various locations can be freely visited between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. To do this in an environmentally friendly manner, we would like to ask everyone to use a (electric) bicycle. Participation is free.

You can start from any location, here are the participating locations:

  • Fruit orchard Beukenbos, Beukenlaan 9, 9870 Zulte
  • Beekeeping Zeemtodde, Anglo 21, 9870 Zulte
  • Organic self-picking garden Purfruit, Neerhoek 7, 8720 Dentergem
  • Private garden with a varied blooming arch, Vaartstraat 13a, 9870 Zulte
  • Organic farm De Zonnekouter, Vossenholstraat 9, 9870 Zulte
  • The Green Plug, Eikenhaagstraat 6a, 9870 Zulte
  • Organic farm Humus, Zaubeekstraat 277, 9870 Zulte

What can you expect?

The various locations will open their doors to tell a bit more about the importance of pollinators, their functioning, offer their products, or for something to drink.
In the fruit orchard of Beukenbos, the bee working group of Zulte, the municipal administration, the Regional Landscape Meetjesland and Leievallei, and the Flemish Society for Entomology will be present.

We recommend that everyone starts at the location nearest to them to avoid any potential crowding.

Bee Week

From May 31 to June 7, 2026, the Department of Environment organizes the Bee Week in Flanders for the thirteenth time. As part of the Flemish Action Plan for Wild Pollinators, they call on municipalities, companies, schools, and citizens to roll up their sleeves. The goal? To create a quality food supply year-round, from which bees, butterflies, and other pollinators can benefit. More info at https://www.vlaanderen.be/week-van-de-bij
