The opening of the Ockerhout, which we wanted to celebrate on March 29, 2020, cannot take place, and therefore we would like to offer the residents an alternative: the description of this walk with the rest area Ockerhout as the starting and ending point.

Note: Follow the guidelines of the government so that no one becomes ill. Walk only with family or with two (one friend). If you encounter someone, greet them kindly but keep at least one and a half meters distance. Benches may currently only be used by the elderly, pregnant women, or less mobile visitors to rest briefly, but maintain distance from each other. There is a small bicycle shed at the Ockerhout. Please be courteous to the neighborhood and do not leave any litter behind. In the Vloethemveld and the Ockerhout, your dog must be on a leash.

Walk Ockerhout

Anyone looking to get some fresh air in the area of Zedelgem can explore the newly constructed Ockerhout. On March 12, 2017, the Agency for Nature and Forest, the Flemish Land Agency, and local residents planted a new piece of forest of 3ha between Diksmuidse Heirweg and Kezelbergstraat. The young forest was planted on the grounds of the late lord Laurentius Van Ockerhout, who passed away on his estate here in 1815. He had turned his estate into a mini-Versailles that people came to see from near and far. Around 1930, the estate was named “Ockerhoutgoed.”

The starting point of the short walk of 2.3km is at the rest area located at the Ockerhout (POI - rest area Ockerhout), along the Diksmuidse Heirweg at bicycle junction number 98, just at the end of the built-up area of Zedelgem.
