The Polar Bear bike route was inaugurated in 2014. The route is 32 km long and takes you past monuments and memorial sites related to World War II.
Why a polar bear as a marker? The soldiers who liberated Wuustwezel were Brits from the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division, and they had a polar bear as a symbol. This route and the monument at the Kruisweg serve as a lasting reminder of the men who wore the Polar Bear on their uniforms.
Starting and ending point: Dorpsstraat 36, 2990 Wuustwezel
Signage: black-yellow signage in the shape of a polar bear on the roadway
