The Red Street is a street in the southern old town of Flensburg, in the area of Flensburg city center. It leads from Südermarkt to Neumarkt, from where it is not far to the district of Rude, after which the street is named.
Originally, it was the only main road heading south. It begins in the southwest corner of Südermarkt, where it meets the Friesische Straße, which together with the eastward-leading Angelburger Straße forms one of the oldest east-west connections in this region. From the north, the Holm, the central axis of the city, meets the square. Behind Neumarkt, already outside the original urban development, but located on the city field, it divides into the main roads to Husum and Schleswig. Between these was Rude in the Middle Ages, a thicket, after which both the district that now exists there and the Red Street are named. Back then, the Franciscan monastery bordered the street.
