Wüstenhagen is a district of the independent city of Remscheid in the Remscheid-Süd city district. The district, where 1,007 inhabitants live, covers an area of 116 hectares. Wüstenhagen is located east of the district of Hohenhagen and west of the motorway interchange 95b "Remscheid" on the A1 motorway. The district includes the residential area and the industrial zone Ueberfeld. The settlement Neuenhaus, which was created from 1921 according to plans by the building authority and later referred to as Am Anger, was intended to alleviate the housing shortage after World War I. Despite the dire situation, an aesthetically pleasing settlement with green meeting spaces and private gardens was created. East of it, the single-family housing estate Auf'm Heidchen, initiated by von Bodelschwingh, follows. After the three model houses at Überfelder Straße 31, 33, and 35 were built in the clay bread construction method adopted from Africa, the remaining houses were constructed according to the same model in a cooperative effort. These again served as a model for the settlement at Grenzwall.
