The palm grove is a park in Alicante, located on Elche Avenue, in the Alicante neighborhood of El Palmeral-Urbanova-Tabarca, facing the Mediterranean Sea. It has its origins in an ancient palm grove with a structure of orchards similar to the Palm Grove of Elche and the Palm Grove of Orihuela.
It originally belonged to the estate of El Carmen. At the end of the 19th century, it degraded with the inauguration of the railway to Murcia and the expansion of the port to the east, when factories and warehouses began to be installed along Babel beach. The railway and the road not only directly affected the palm grove by reducing its dimensions but also separated and isolated it from the sea with a solid barrier, breaking the direct relationship it had before.
The creation and extension of the San Gabriel neighborhood between 1910 and 1930 and the establishment of an aluminum industry between 1952 and 1956 meant two new detriments to the extension and survival of the Palm Grove.
