The sanctuary of the Virgin of Lourdes is located in La Nou de Berguedà and was the first to be built in Spain.
It was the priest Mn. Antoni Comellas, a son of La Nou and a great devotee of the Virgin of Lourdes, who wanted to build the Sanctuary. He started with a small Chapel in 1878 to place an image of the Mare de Déu de Lourdes. However, due to the influx of visitors that the small chapel received, in 1880 the first stone of the current Sanctuary, in neoclassical style, was laid with great solemnity, which was inaugurated in 1885.
In a few years, fully funded by devotees, the Main Altar and the eight side altars (two of which were destroyed during the war of '36) in neo-Gothic style were built. By 1915, it was completely finished.
