The Clock Tower of Meyrueis, located at the corner of the Place Sully, houses the Tourist Office. Originally, it was part of the ramparts of Meyrueis, reinforced at the outbreak of the Wars of Religion.
Also serving as the town hall, the tower's purpose is essentially communal until the Revolution (clerks, deliberation room of the Consulate, dungeon) when it becomes a rental housing and houses a business on the ground floor
After a fire in 1894, the roof was converted into a terrace, with a row of crenellations sitting on a corbelled arch, and accompanied by the construction of a turret topped by the campanile which houses the clock mechanism
The bell dates from 1634. For the clock, we know that there is one in Meyrueis since at least 1452, but it has undergone multiple developments: addition of hands, enlargement of the dials, lighting at night with electricity and electronic system of the 80s.
