This beautiful museum tells the story of 200 years of discipline and the Netherlands. The prison village was created thanks to the efforts of Johannes van den Bosch. His goal was to combat poverty by giving people a new chance in the Colonies of Benevolence. Of course, you had to behave and do your best. To remind you of this, there were discipline and punishments. What that meant and how it developed over the years can be seen in this former prison.
Veenhuizen is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Colonies of Benevolence. The show Het Pauperparadijs was shown in the courtyard of the museum.
Address: Oude Gracht 1, 9341 AA Veenhuizen, Drenthe, Netherlands
