Climbing Kilimanjaro along Machame - Day 3 - Shira-Cave Camp - Lava Tower - Barranco Camp

This route is part of the ascent of Kilimanjaro via the Machame route

Day 3: Shira Cave Camp - Junction Point / Lava Tower (4500m) - Barranco Camp (3950m) - 10 km

From the Shira cave camp, we continue slightly uphill and have a beautiful view of the snow-capped Mt. We arrive at Junction Point , where several climbing routes converge. In the distance we see climbers on other routes. We continue to climb to the Lava Tower at 4520 m , also called "Shark's Tooth", where we will acclimatize for a while.

The descent from Lava Tower is steep and very rocky but very beautiful. We continue down a beautiful trail to eventually descend further down Arrow Glacier and a creek bed. There are some bushes here and there.

There are some very nice clusters of lobelia (giant reeds: like a giant cactus with a big flower on top) that we walk through.
