Nodes form the basis of a handy navigation network that allows you to map out your own routes and easily follow them as you go along. Each node in the network has a unique number. Following these numbers makes it easy to navigate from one point to the next without getting lost.
Cycling nodes: Intended for cyclists and often located along scenic, traffic-free routes.
Hiking nodes: Specially designed for hiking trails in areas of natural beauty or which are popular with hikers.
Horse riding nodes: Focused on safe, enjoyable routes when horse riding.

There are two types of node networks: physical and virtual.
Physical nodes: These are identified by route markers. They show node numbers and direction arrows, so you can follow your route without a map.
Virtual nodes: These exist only electronically and are available via apps such as RouteYou. They offer the same flexibility as physical nodes, but require a smartphone or GPS to navigate.

Why is the node system so popular with people going cycling, hiking and horse riding?
User-friendly: Easy to plan your route by connecting numbers. Navigating is child's play thanks to clear signs and online tools.
Flexible: Create routes that perfectly suit your needs, whether you want to take a short walk or a long bike ride.
Reliable: The networks link together safe, scenic and well-maintained trails.
International: Node networks are well known in Belgium and the Netherlands, but are also found in other European countries including Germany, France and Denmark.

The most extensive node networks can be found in Belgium and the Netherlands. There are also amazing node routes to be found in Germany, Austria, France, Spain and Denmark, which are being expanded by the day.
