La estatua fue inaugurada en 1926, año de la muerte del profesor, y está ubicada en los terrenos del Instituto en la plaza de Guillermo Rances.
Adolfo Cabrera Pinto vivió de 1855 a 1926. En la localidad de La Laguna, Tenerife, fue nombrado director del Instituto General y Técnico de la Provincia de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, donde desarrolló una enorme labor educativa durante más de veinte años.
Pero sobre todo, mediante Real Decreto de 11 de abril de 1913 consiguió incluir a la Universidad de La Laguna en el proyecto de organización administrativa del Archipiélago. Además de profesor, fue un gran y destacado periodista, redactor de El Populair y colaborador de muchos otros periódicos.
