Uno de los depósitos de esmeraldas más grandes de Europa se encuentra en el valle de Habach, cerca de Bramberg. Se tolera la búsqueda de esas esmeraldas por parte de los turistas siempre que se busque con herramientas simples. Las esmeraldas varían mucho en color, algunas de verde oscuro a verde claro con variaciones en colores azul/cian. A menudo con muchas inclusiones, rara vez cristalino. La esmeralda es un miembro de la familia del berilo. Pertenece a las piedras preciosas tradicionales "cuatro grandes", junto con diamantes, rubíes y zafiros. La palabra "esmeralda" se deriva del griego antiguo: σμάραγδος (smáragdos; "piedra preciosa verde").
