Julius de Geyter (1830-1905) nació en Lede (cerca de Aalst) el 25 de abril de 1830 y se mudó a Amberes a la edad de 18 años, donde vivió y trabajó el resto de su vida. Julius de Geyter (1830-1905) fue un periodista, poeta y flamencista flamenco que se comprometió firmemente con la supervivencia y difusión del trabajo y los ideales de Multatuli (Eduard Douwes Dekker). Es considerado el principal defensor de Multatuli en Flandes y fue un Gran Neerlandés de ideología progresista-liberal con un papel activo en el Movimiento Flamenco.
En Amberes trabajó, entre otros, como maestro, traductor, editor y más tarde director del Banco de Préstamos. Estuvo involucrado en revistas literarias como De Vlaamsche School y escribió poesía, cantatas y relatos como el de Reinaert de Vos. Su dirección de residencia estaba en Amberes; una de las direcciones conocidas donde vivió fue en la calle Venus 11.
