Que el uso de la bicicleta esté muy arraigado en Flandes no es realmente una noticia y también lo demuestran las estadísticas. Según una cifra de la VAB, el número de bicicletas en Flandes habría crecido en 1,7 millones de ejemplares en los últimos 10 años. Pero en lo que respecta al transporte diario al trabajo en bicicleta, todavía hay mucho que mejorar. Una cifra de 2013 (fuente VAB) afirma que el 17% de los urbanitas utilizan la bicicleta para el transporte diario al trabajo. Y solo el 7% de las personas que viven en áreas rurales.
El Servicio Público Federal de Economía informó en 2011 que Bélgica cuenta con 7 millones de bicicletas, excluyendo las bicicletas para niños. En ese momento, Flandes tendría 5,34 millones de bicicletas.
