Se pensó durante mucho tiempo que el árbol de la libertad de Morkhoven fue plantado durante la revolución brabanzona (1789-1791). El árbol que se plantó entonces desapareció durante los tiempos agitados que siguieron. Es probable que, a raíz de la independencia belga, se reemplazara por un nuevo árbol de la libertad. Un análisis especializado de los anillos de crecimiento revela que la fecha de plantación de la linden holandesa en crecimiento se sitúa alrededor de 1830.
