La estación de metro Bockstael se inauguró el 6 de octubre de 1982 junto con Ossegem, Pannenhuis, Belgica y Simonis, como parte de la extensión de la línea de metro 1A desde Beekkant hasta Bockstael. Hasta 1985, esta estación fue el terminal de la rama noroeste de la línea este-oeste, que se extendió en el mencionado año hasta Heizel. El nombre del proyecto de la estación de metro Bockstael era Laken/Laeken.
