La antigua sinagoga en Emden existió desde 1836 hasta 1938. En el mismo lugar probablemente ya había una casa de oración judía desde el siglo XVI, que tuvo que ser reemplazada en 1836 debido a su mal estado. Durante los pogromos de noviembre de 1938, los nacionalistas locales destruyeron el edificio.
