A lo largo de unos 250 km, la ruta ciclista conecta Furt y el ferry de praam, impresionantes ferris suspendidos de la época del Kaiser con puentes y túneles modernos.
En la región vacacional de Altes Land, a orillas del Elba, el camino ciclista sigue en primer lugar el curso del Oste, que serpentea entre diques hacia su desembocadura en Balje. Dos históricas ferris praam en Brobergen y Gräpel, una de ellas incluso operada a mano, y una de las ocho ferris suspendidas que aún se conservan en el mundo, se pueden contemplar a lo largo de este tranquilo río y utilizar para cruzar.
Río arriba desde la desembocadura del Oste, generalmente con viento a favor, se llega hasta Wischhafen. Quien quiera continuar, toma el ferry hacia Glückstadt y sigue su recorrido a lo largo del animado canal entre el Mar del Norte y el Báltico hasta Kiel.
