Torrelavega es un municipio y ciudad española de Cantabria. De carácter industrial y comercial, se trata del segundo núcleo urbano más relevante de la comunidad autónoma por detrás de la capital, Santander. Pertenece a la comarca del Besaya y se sitúa en un valle o vega a unos 8 kilómetros de la costa cantábrica. En ella confluyen los ríos Saja y Besaya. La población del término municipal asciende a 51 597 habitantes .
