La ruta comienza en la villa condal de Sort, capital del Pallars Sobirà. Dentro de su núcleo urbano destaca el castillo de los Condes de Pallars, situado en la parte superior, próximo a los caminos de Sort con la Vall d’Àssua y los pueblos del Batlliu de Sort, que recibe su nombre porque dicha zona era antiguamente controlada por la figura de “el senyor batlle”. En Sort, se puede visitar además de la iglesia de sant Feliu, la prisión-museo del “Camino de la Libertad”, un centro de información acerca de la importancia que tuvo la zona como paso de miles de personas que cruzaron los Pirineos huyendo de la barbarie nazi o para incorporarse al ejército aliado en el norte de África. El camino principal parte del extremo suroeste del núcleo de Sort, siguiendo un vial asfaltado que conduce a la parte superior de los restos del castillo.
