En este cementerio había alrededor de 1300 una iglesia con granjas. El cementerio era, junto con el cementerio en Naarden, inicialmente el único cementerio en el Gooi. Tras la Reforma, la iglesia católica tuvo que desaparecer. El cementerio siguió siendo un lugar de peregrinación. Todavía se lleva a cabo el primer domingo después del día de San Juan el 24 de junio, la procesión de San Juan desde la basílica de San Juan en Laren hasta este cementerio.
