Sobre los soportales que unen la Praça de S. Tiago con el Largo da Oliveira se encuentra el Antiguo Ayuntamiento.
Este edificio albergaba a los hombres que gobernaban la ciudad. Su construcción se inició en el siglo XIV y se prolongó hasta mediados del siglo XV, cuando reinaba D. Afonso V. Entre los siglos XVI y XVIII, el edificio sufrió varias reformas y renovaciones. Más tarde, en 1877, se colocó en la fachada una estatua de un guerrero procedente del antiguo edificio de la aduana. Según la tradición, este guerrero simboliza la doble contribución del pueblo de Guimarães a las conquistas de África.
