Mühlbachl est une ancienne commune comptant au dernier recensement 1453 habitants dans le district d'Innsbruck-Land en Tyrol. L'ancienne commune est située dans le district judiciaire d'Innsbruck. Mühlbachl se trouve du côté ouest de la vallée de Wipptal au nord. Le vaste territoire communal s'étend du versant sud du Schönberg le long de la forêt de Matrei jusqu'à la frontière communale avec Steinach, à l'embouchure de la vallée de Navis. De bien des façons, Mühlbachl est relié à Matrei am Brenner, Pfons ainsi qu'en partie à Navis. Le point culminant est le sommet de la Serles avec 2717 m d'altitude, que Goethe a qualifié de « grand autel du Tyrol ».
