Le mot Pajottenland a été inventé par l’avocat Lennik Frans-Joseph De Gronckel. Il a utilisé le mot Pajottenland, sous le pseudonyme de Franciscus Josephus Twyfelloos, dans un écrit romantique et ludique publié dans la première moitié du 19ème siècle. Il mentionne pour la première fois le nom Pajottenland dans un journal en série en 1845. En conséquence, il a non seulement créé un nom pour cette région, mais aussi une individualité et une conscience de soi.
