En 1928, Antoine Courtens, un élève de Victor Horta, a conçu l'hôtel particulier Haerens, l'une de ses premières réalisations importantes. Il était architecte, décorateur et designer de meubles et le principal représentant de l'art déco à Bruxelles.
Cette maison d'angle a été construite sur commande de Robert Haerens, un ingénieur travaillant pour le groupe Empain.
