À Waregem, nous avons le cimetière américain. C'est le plus petit des 8 cimetières américains permanents en mémoire de la Première Guerre mondiale en Europe. C'est aussi le seul en Belgique. Certaines familles ont souhaité que leurs proches restent à l'endroit où ils sont tombés en Europe. C'est pourquoi, en 1919, le ministère américain de la Guerre a commencé à établir des cimetières permanents : six en France, un en Angleterre et un en Belgique.
