En 1965, le barrage et la centrale électrique pour la production d’énergie renouvelable ont été mis en service. De cette manière, l’eau de la Vierre est collectée et dirigée vers la centrale hydroélectrique de la Semois où a lieu la production d’énergie.
Le lac a une superficie de 35 hectares et a jusqu’à 9 m de profondeur avec une capacité de 1,5 million de mètres cubes d’eau.
