Galmaarden a vu le jour sur les rives de la rivière Mark. L'itinéraire passe devant les moulins à eau de Galmaarden. Vous marchez d'abord quelque 600 mètres le long de la Mark, avant de continuer sur les basses pentes de la vallée de Beverbeek. La rivière Mark, qui traverse la commune, fournissait l'énergie hydraulique nécessaire pour faire fonctionner les différents moulins. Aujourd'hui, seul le moulin Heetvelde est encore en activité.
